Nike’s Air Jordan have taken everyone by surprise by dropping not one but two Air Jordan 1’s from the OG collections, each built with fans of a monochrome palette in mind. Featuring black and white contrasting uppers for a clean cut, simplistic look. Unofficially nicknamed ‘Yin & Yang’ by fans this AJ1 has the potential to be our favorite on drop this side of 2016 so far. The pack is however officially coined the ‘Premium Essential’ pack which really says it all, a luxurious make-up in colourways that work along side everyday outfits, making them a true essential.
Rooted in Chinese philosophy the ‘Yin Yang’ is symbolised as a ‘Taijitu’ as a representation of the complimentary relationship between contrasting forces. Linking to many balances found in the natural world, such as light & dark.
This balance could be used to mirror the relationship between performance technology and a luxury aesthetic, were in most case one is often compromised for the other, but with Nike this is rarely the case.
Unique red “Nike Air” tongue tag branding seals the deal, while the finishing touch on this easy-to-wear 1 comes via Air Jordan logo branding imprinted onto the side of each foot, just above the Nike swoosh.
